SM&P Supports Local Fundraiser
SM&P, a proud sponsor, supported The Supreme Cork, an eagerly anticipated event in the Atlanta area. Held at the Wild Heaven West End Brewery and Gardens, the “Sip and Meet” was hosted by the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia. The event aimed to aid the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF), a group committed to serving both the community and the legal profession.
The primary beneficiaries of The Supreme Cork were the Guardian ad Litem Program and the Safe and Stable Families Office of the AVLF. These initiatives provide essential support, training, and legal representation by volunteer attorneys to low-income individuals involved in family law matters and domestic violence cases. Mary Montgomery, the founder and managing partner of SM&P, emphasized the significance of AVLF, stating, “AVLF is a worthy project because it supports domestic violence survivors during their struggle to navigate an intricate and often confusing legal system.”
Without the assistance of volunteers and fundraising events like The Supreme Cork, many clients would be unable to attain the long-term safety and stability they and their families deserve. Kyle Newman, the AVF annual campaign manager, stressed the importance of funds, as they directly contribute to client assistance, particularly for survivors of intimate partner abuse who have nowhere else to turn for support.
Associate attorney Dominic Jones, attending the event, expressed the motivation behind SM&P’s sponsorship, emphasizing the necessity for compassionate and competent legal assistance for those in desperate circumstances.
AVLF leverages the collective power and resources of the Atlanta professional community to promote freedom from violence and advocate for the economic and housing security of low-income Atlantans. Over the past four decades, Atlanta’s leading firms and brightest legal talent have volunteered to support AVLF in fulfilling its mission. As the largest provider of pro bono legal services in Atlanta, AVLF annually offers first-rate legal assistance through the dedication of 500 professionals and student volunteers to over 5,000 low-income Atlanta families with no other resources available to them.
Through collaborative efforts between the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia, AVLF, generous sponsors like SM&P, and the support of 100 attendees, more than $7,500 was raised for AVLF’s Safe and Stable Families Project. Let’s raise a glass to all of them!
