SM&P Sponsors Family Law Institute Meeting

SM&P was honored to sponsor the Family Law Institute (FLI) this year. The FLI event took place in Hilton Head, SC and was the success everyone knew it would be. Attendees earned 14 CE units to maintain their required continued education.

Although participants did some networking while having fun on the beach and golf course, most of their time was spent deepening their knowledge on essential legal topics. Subjects covered included diversity, legal practice in the digital age, the role of therapists in family law, complex forms of evidence, the value of professionalism in the field, and the interface of criminal, corporate, and real estate law with family law.

“It would seem we were inundated with a huge amount of information similar to law school,” Taylor Dudley said. “But family law is a rapidly changing practice, and we find ourselves constantly adding to our arsenal of legal tools.”

Attorneys at the meeting also had the chance to review and discuss ground-breaking cases from 2021-2022. “To give our clients every advantage,” explained Burton Miller, “we make a solid effort to keep up with developments in family law. There is always more to learn that is of benefit to those of us who want to offer superior advocacy.”

“Not only are the formal presentations very valuable on their own, considering the changing laws we must keep up with,” said Mary Montgomery, firm founder and managing partner, “but equally valuable is being able to informally talk to and learn from other leaders in the law.”
