Legal Aid Event Shares Efforts of Women in Service
Cobb Legal Aid and the Cobb Women of the Bar Section recently held their 15th annual Women in Service Luncheon at Mac’s Chophouse on the Square in Marietta, Georgia with close to 40 attendees.
As a sponsor, Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor was honored to support and attend this annual event. The event helps to build comradery amongst female attorneys while also giving insight to the work being done and hearing from local experienced and successful women in their area of practice.
SM&P Stephany Garcia-Herrera and Catherine Sartain, both in attendance, found the event inspiring and informative.
“The luncheon was very eye opening regarding the services and work of Legal Aid in the community but also to meet fellow attorneys who have contributed so much to the organization and our communities,” said Catherine.
The inspirational program featured attorney and former Georgia State Bar President, Dawn Jones, discussing her career path and the meaningful service opportunities she has intentionally sought out.
“One of the presenters was an ICU nurse for 15 years and then became an attorney,” said Stephany. “it is inspiring to see that if you really want something it is never too late.”
Cobb County State Court Judge Jane Manning moderated the conversation with Dawn Jones.
Both ladies discussed the importance of being involved with your state and local bar associations, and how necessary and needed pro bono work is.
It was great to connect with other women in the practice of law,” said Stephany, “and to be a part of so much diversity in cobb county.” For Catherine, she was reminded of the importance of taking part and contributing to your community.
According to Cathy Waddell, Cobb Legal Aid, Attorney & Pro Bono Project Manager, the popular annual luncheon is presented by Cobb Legal Aid and the Women of the Bar section of the Cobb Bar Association with the assistance of generous sponsors from the Cobb legal community.
