Alexis Grubbs Memorial Golf Tournament

As the pandemic continues into fall, golf remains one of the safest recreational activities. Therefore, the Cobb County Bar Association and Brookstone Country Club in Acworth went forward this year in support of the 22nd Annual Alexis Grubbs Memorial Golf Tournament. All proceeds from the fundraiser were donated by individuals and corporate sponsorsto the Alexis Grubbs Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The tournament was established to assist deserving Marietta High School graduates in pursuing college degrees in any area connected to law. This year’s event grossed over $10,000 for the scholarship.

SM&P sponsored a hole. “We are very proud of all the student recipients who have gone forth and contributed to the field of law in some way,” said Mary Montgomery, founding and managing partner of the firm. “This scholarship has made a real difference, not just to the students, but to our communities, locally and nation-wide.”

Beneficiaries have graduated from Duke, Morehouse, Davidson, and the University of Georgia, as well as from the John Jay School of Forensics, Chattahoochee Technical College in criminology, and many others. The Cobb Bar is proud to have helped these students become lawyers in Marietta, Atlanta, Washington D.C., and New York City. Recipients have also been employed with the FBI, as deputy sheriffs, forensic experts, and a chief security officer overseas.

“Thanks to the scholarship fund’s excellent management by the Marietta Schools Foundation,” said event co-chair Carlos J. Rodriguez, “there are no administrative costs. Every dollar raised goes to the students!”
