2018 Justice Jam

The annual Justice Jam fundraising event helps low-income people in the Cobb County community while also offering fun for local attorneys, who enjoy taking the stage in a friendly Karaoke & Lip Sync Battle. Members and friends of the Cobb County Bar gathered at The Brickyard on October 25 to support the Legal Aid of Cobb County and Cobb Justice Foundation’s fundraiser.

Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor helped sponsor the Jam. According to Mary Montgomery, SM&P’s founder and managing partner, “The firm’s support is money well spent.” Many of Cobb Legal Aid’s clients have an annual income below 200 percent of the federal poverty limit, she explains. Through free civil legal services, this nonprofit helps low-income people deal with some of life’s most basic needs – a safe home, enough food to eat, a decent education, assistance with family law and wills, fraud protection, and personal safety, such as home security and defense from domestic violence.

Cobb Legal Aid’s managing attorney, Tara Riddle, stated that “Cobb Legal Aid is so grateful for the support of the Cobb legal community and firms like Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor. These friends allow us to provide nearly 5,000 people each year with direct legal help through our eight staff attorneys and over 200 volunteers.” This year, approximately $17,000 was raised.

Although no SM&P attorney was on stage this year, one can always believe, “there is next year.”
