2017 Justice Jam

The annual Justice Jam helps low-income people in the Cobb County community while also offering fun for local attorneys to take the stage in a friendly Karaoke & Lip Sync Battle. On September 21 members and friends of the Cobb County Bar gathered at The Brickyard to support the Legal Aid of Cobb County and Cobb Justice Foundation’s fundraising event.

Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor helped sponsor the event, and according to Mary Montgomery, founder and managing partner, “The firm’s support is money well spent.” Cobb Legal Aid helps low-income people meet basic needs through free civil legal services. The non-profit helps clients deal with some of life’s most basic needs—a safe home, enough food to eat, a decent education, protection against fraud and personal safety.

Legal Aid’s clients have an annual income below 200% of the federal poverty limit. SMP attorney Shana Pennywell said, “The Justice Jam is always a fun time and a great way to support a great cause.”

Cobb Legal Aid’s managing attorney Tara Riddle stated that “Cobb Legal Aid is so grateful for the support of the Cobb legal community and firms like Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor. These friends allow us to provide nearly 5,000 people each year with direct legal help through our eight staff attorneys and over 200 volunteers”. Approximately $15,000 was raised for this event.

Although not on stage this year, Shana commented that while she has participated in karaoke, the talent of Cobb County attorneys is always impressive. “Maybe next year.”
