‘Que & Brew Tailgate Party Benefited liveSAFE
It’s football season! Live SAFE Resources ‘Que & Brew attendees kicked it off with a day of food, team spirit, and fun during the ultimate tailgate party at the Whitewater parking lot in Marietta October 5. Victoria Turney, client relations director at SM&P, said, “It was a wonderful success, probably because the party had something for everyone.”
Eight nationally-ranked BBQ teams competed to wow the hundreds of guests with their fabulous food and amazing rigs. A variety of other tailgate eats w available from area restaurants. Fans washed down their eats with beer from the best breweries around or, for the non-beer-drinkers, softer drinks, while watching their favorite teams on the big screen or competing in the cornhole tournament co-hosted by Cornhole Atlanta.
“The party raised almost $20,000,” said liveSAFE executive director Tracy Atwater, “which is amazing for an inaugural event.” These funds will benefit lifeSAFE Resources, a 24/7 operation that has been creating awareness of abuse, fostering support, and saving lives in this community since 1917. The agency offers safety and healing to those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and elder abuse. liveSAFE runs the only domestic violence shelter in Cobb County and provides other resources, including case management, counseling, legal advocates assisting with obtaining temporary protective orders, and transitional housing where women and children can stay for up to two years. “We are able to do so much thanks to support from people like those at SM&P,” said Atwater. “We really appreciate the firm’s help with and interest in our work.”
liveSAFE is the only non-profit partnering with law enforcement, the DA’s office, and WellStar Health System to provide emergency services and outreach to sexual assault victims in Cobb, Cherokee, and Paulding counties. “We were glad to continue our support in helping to eliminate domestic violence and elder abuse. Legal advice provided by firms such as ours is very important in helping clients put their lives back together,” SM&P founder and managing partner Mary Montgomery said, “but it’s only part of the solution. liveSAFE reaches out with a range of other critical services that help ensure long-term success.”
