SM&P’s Victoria Turney Receives Citation for Meritorious Service

American Legion Horace Orr Post 29 in Marietta recently awarded a Citation for Meritorious Service to Victoria Turney, a retired Marine gunnery sergeant and currently director of client relations at SM&P, for her dedicated work with the Cobb County Veterans Court. She has volunteered with the Court for the past six years.

Walt Cusick, Jr., Post 29 Commander, explains why Victoria was chosen for this prestigious recognition. “Our Post here in Marietta has been working closely with the Cobb County Veterans Court Program. Victoria was instrumental in getting us set up with Judge Rubin Green’s staff to see how we best could support our men and women veterans in this program. She came to me last year with the idea of providing a new set of clothing for each graduate of the program to enable them to start their new journey in life. This program has become a major success.”

Members of Post 29 consider Victoria a vital part of their Legion family. They say she is known among the group for her loyal cooperation. She is always willing to step up and help support our veterans. 

“Nothing I do for the Post is like work to me,” said Victoria. “Rather it’s an honor. I feel very fortunate to be part of this group. And I am so grateful that Mary Montgomery (SM&P’s founding and managing partner) allows me to take time off from my job at the firm to volunteer with the Court. Her support is critical to my work there.”

“We frequently express support for our veterans, but action truly does speak louder than words, and no one knows that better than a veteran like Victoria,” Mary said. “I am more than willing to help her help fellow veterans through her donations of time and expertise to the Veterans Court. We are so proud of her.”
